Untitled (Slab), 2018
White Bronze
100x100x3 cm
For the Prize, Francesco Arena created a square slab in white bronze with phrases taken from The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck displayed on either side: “How can we live without our lives?” and “How will we know it's us without our past?”. Each letter is filled with fragments of grape stalks from the last harvest at CastelGiocondo.
Through the overlapping of literature and reality, Arena leads us to reflect on the relationship between language and matter, triggering a conceptual shift.
